This Privacy Policy explains how Day Zero (DZ) Attorneys ("we", "us" and "our") collects, uses and protects personal data when you visit dzattorneys.com or contact us through it. We are a law firm based in Lagos, Nigeria, and we handle personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the directions of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
The short version
We collect very little. If you fill in our contact form we receive your name, your email address and your message. Our host keeps standard server logs. We do not use advertising or analytics trackers, we do not sell your data, and the figures you type into our calculators stay on your own device.
What this policy covers
This policy covers the website and any enquiry you make through it. It does not cover the confidential handling of a client matter once you engage us, which is governed by our engagement terms and our professional obligations as lawyers.
What we collect
There are three kinds of information involved when you use this site.
- Information you give us. When you use the contact form we receive your name, your email address and the content of your message. If you email us directly, we receive whatever you choose to put in that email.
- Information collected automatically. When the site is served to you, our hosting provider records standard technical information such as your IP address, your browser type, the pages you request and the time of the request. This keeps the site running and helps us keep it secure.
- Information kept on your device. Our calculators in the Tools section save the figures you enter in your browser's local storage, on your own device. This never reaches our servers, and you can clear it at any time from inside each tool or through your browser settings.
Cookies and local storage
We do not use cookies to track you or to advertise to you, and we do not run analytics on this site. The only browser storage we rely on is the local storage described above, which is there to make the calculators work and stays on your device.
How we use it
We use the information you give us to respond to your enquiry and to correspond with you about it. We use the automatically collected information to provide, maintain and secure the website. And we use personal data where we need to in order to meet a legal or regulatory obligation that applies to us.
Our lawful basis
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 we rely on your consent when you choose to contact us, and on our legitimate interest in running a secure website and replying to the people who reach out to us. Where the law requires us to keep a record, we rely on our legal obligation to do so.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing. We use a small number of providers who process data on our behalf so that the site can work.
- Our website host and form provider stores contact form submissions and serves the site to your browser.
- Our site loads fonts from Google Fonts. When your browser fetches them, Google receives your IP address and basic request information.
We may also disclose personal data where we are required to by law, or by a court or a regulator.
Where your data goes
Some of these providers store or process data on servers outside Nigeria. Where personal data is transferred abroad, we take reasonable steps to see that it stays protected to the standard the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 requires.
How long we keep it
We keep contact enquiries only for as long as we need them to deal with your request and to hold a reasonable record of our correspondence, after which they are deleted or anonymised. Server logs are kept for a short period by our host. Anything held in local storage on your device lasts until you clear it.
How we protect it
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No website can be made completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, but we work to keep the risk low.
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it if it is wrong, ask us to delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, withdraw any consent you have given, and receive your data in a portable form where that applies. To exercise any of these, email us at info@dzattorneys.com. You also have the right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission if you believe we have mishandled your data.

Our site links to third parties such as LinkedIn. We are not responsible for how those sites handle your data, and we would encourage you to read their own privacy policies.
Children
This website is meant for founders and businesses and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of eighteen (18).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed, and any material change will be reflected here.
